If rumours are to be believed, Matt Damon is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit for a very minor cameo appearance in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
According to the Weekly Planet podcast (via CosmicBookNews), Damon is set to appear in a scene on Asgard where a play is recounting the events of the first Thor movie. Damon reportedly features as an Asgardian actor taking on the role of the God of Mischief, Loki.
As CosmicBookNews speculates, this also opens up the possibility of seeing another actor taking on the role of Thor in the play, with the site suggesting WWE Superstar John Cena. If you recall, Cena was rumoured for a part in the movie back in November of last year, although the source of that report was an IMDb listing, which could of course have been added by anyone.
If the rumour is true, it would presumably rule Damon out for a bigger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe further down the line. However, the actor has previously downplayed his interest portraying a superhero, unless directed by Christopher Nolan or his good pal Ben Affleck, both of whom are unlikely to be involved with Marvel any time in the near future.
