“Thor 2” Confirmed for Summer 2013

Marvel Studios, which is in production on the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers, is making a full commitment to Thor 2, with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the title hero.

Marvel will need to hire a director for that film because, it’s been revealed Kenneth Branagh won’t be returning as the director. Branagh, who directed the first film and watched it gross $437 million worldwide with a few territories still playing out, will likely be involved in some producing capacity. His exit was “mutual and amicable,” Deadline was told. That means a big job is out there that a lot of directors and their agents will be chasing over the upcoming holiday.

Thor 2 will be hit theatres July 26, 2013. (Source)

Additional “Snow White and the Huntsman” Casting

Two new actors are joining the Snow White and the Huntsman cast – they are Lily Cole and Sam Spruell. They have been now cast in Universal’s picture, which recently saw the addition of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides actor, Ian McShane.

Cole will play a character known simply as “Greta” while Spruell won the role of “Finn,” the Queen’s hitman of sorts. Snow White and the Huntsman will make its theatrical debut on June 1, 2012. (Source)

“The Avengers” Will Not Appear at Comic Con 2011?

Fan may be disappointed to hear that the Avengers are not expected to reassemble in Hall H at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The official word from Marvel Studios is that their team will sit out the Hollywood previews in the 6,000-seat hall, where fans, bloggers and journalists from around the world come to see filmmakers and stars introduce and promote their upcoming spectacle movies.

The leadership at Marvel Studios is also quick to point out that sitting out Hall H is not synonymous with sitting out Comic-Con, which runs July 21-24; the studio will have a major presence on the convention showroom floor (one Marvel source cryptically said that the booth plan will be as attention-grabbing as last year’s Hall H panel), and there’s talk of a promotional event beyond the walls of the San Diego Convention Center, which might suggest a Captain America: The First Avenger promotion, premiere or special screening.

Chris Evans Provides an “Avengers” Updates

Chris Evans (Captain America) has been working on the set of The Avengers in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his co-stars, Chris Hemsworth, (Thor) Robert Downey Jr., (Iron Man) and Mark Ruffalo, (Bruce Banner) among others.

Evans recently spoke with MTV about his experiences on set. Speaking on how director, Joss Whedon is dealing with so many big-name characters at once, he said:

“It’s not an easy task for Joss to incorporate all of these characters, and not only is he doing a fantastic job, but everyone is just getting along so well.”

Evans also admitted to unleashing his inner fan-boy when seeing his co-stars in their heroic attire. He said:

“I seen Hemsworth with the cape and Downey with the suit, and it’s the first time I’ve really kind of geeked out.”

Much to the dismay of the studios, much of the key points of The Avengers have come out. It’s known that Loki, who was played by Tom Hiddleston in Thor, will return for the ensemble film as one of its main villains. He will be aided by the power of the Cosmic Cube as well as his new associates, the alien species known as the Skrull. Latino Review also broke the story that the mighty villain, Thanos will play his part.

With Joss Whedon at the helm, “The Avengers” is set to be one of the first big films of next year’s summer season with a release date of May 4, 2012. (Source)

“The Avengers” to Film in Cleveland

While states such as Illinois have seen a decline in Hollywood movie production deals that help fill empty hotel rooms, Ohio is seeing an increase in movie business, Ohio’s NBC affiliate WYKC reports.

Ohio’s film office secured four more movies to be filmed at least partly in Ohio. One of them – Marvel Entertainment’s The Avengers – had switched locations to Cleveland from Detroit. Marvel’s decision to shoot scenes for The Avengers in Ohio cost Detroit’s four-star Westin Book Cadillac about $280,000 in business, hotel sales manager Amanda Toy had previously told the Detroit News.

Entertainment Weekly says The Avengers started filming one month ago in Albuquerque, N.M., and was scheduled to move to Cleveland, followed by New York City. The movie will be released in theaters on May 4, 2012. (Source)

Extras “The Hottest Men of Summer 2011”

Summer is around the corner, and with it comes blockbuster movies and its hotties who star in them. Check out Extra’s steamy list of the summer’s sexiest men!

Chris Hemsworth:
Australian-born Chris Hemsworth stars in the Marvel action film, Thor. The hunky Hemsworth trained immensely for the part — maybe a little too much. In an L.A. Times interview, the actor admitted he could not fit into his costume because he was TOO muscular!

“[The filmmakers] kept saying ‘Yeah, get as big as you can, as big as you can.’ And then I came back right before Christmas, just before we started the movie, and had a final sort of camera test and put the costume on and within a couple of minutes, my hands started going numb,” Hemsworth said in his interview.

“And I thought, ‘OK, it doesn’t fit.’”

Another Villain Added to “The Avengers?”

Production on Marvel’s The Avengers is already underway, kicked off near the end of April with much fanfare and a personal message from writer/director Joss Whedon. At the time, the studio’s press release confirmed the central antagonist as none other than Loki, the conniving figure played by Tom Hiddleston in this month’s Thor.

Of course, we also know the cast consists of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill). However, if recent reports are accurate, there may be another villain facing off against this formidable team.

Potential spoilers from here on: So far, the running theory is that Loki uses the Cosmic Cube, teased in the “stinger” following the Thor credits, to contact the Skrulls. The green-skinned alien race of shapeshifters forms an army that battles the superhuman forces of The Avengers. However, Latino Review reports Loki may also wind up stealing and harnessing the power of another magical artifact from Odin’s vault: the infinity gauntlet.

The gauntlet — here’s a picture of it at Comic-Con 2010 — is a golden glove fitted with six “infinity gems” that give its wielder God-like power. In a ’90s Marvel comic book series, appropriately titled “The Infinity Gauntlet,” a mad Titan named Thanos creates the powerful object to give him mastery over time, space, mind, soul, reality, and power. Then he destroys half of Earth’s population and imprisons the universe’s other Cosmic entities.

Latino Review has been fairly reliable in the past, especially with Marvel-related mysteries, but this should be treated as a rumor for now. The site doesn’t reveal how Thanos fits into the story, though given the prominence of Loki and the Skrulls this time around, it may be safe to assume the cosmic villain part of a potential setup for a larger scale sequel. The forward-thinking plan has been Marvel’s modus operandi since Iron Man, no reason to suspect their May 4, 2012 release is any different. (Source)

First Behind the Scene Image for “The Avengers”

“We wanted to do a tease of an image — Let people know that the movie has started filming, and it’s real. We thought it would be fun to have the cast chairs — that’s the big selling point of the movie, that these people are together on the set.

I did get to New Mexico on the 1st day of shooting. Right off the bat, it involved a couple of characters who’d been in other movies meeting for the first time. It was a little surreal, realizing it was actually happening.”
     – Kevin Feige (“The Avengers,” producer)

The Avengers comes to theatres May 4, 2012.

Natalie Portman Will Not Return for “The Avengers”

Following recent news that Natalie would be reprising the role of Jane Foster from Thor in writer-director Joss Whedon’s super-team movie, The Avengers, she revealed to TodayOnline that she will not be in it.

I’m not in The Avengers, but I’m signed up for the next two [Thor] sequels if they are made. I think these inter-related Marvel movies are great fun. The Avengers will be like Ocean’s Eleven with the superhero all-stars!
