“Snow White and the Huntsman” Production Halted

According to a new report, production on Snow White and the Huntsman has come to a standstill as the riots keep getting worse and worse in London! The riots have gotten so out of hand in London, England, many shops in the city are now closing at the 5 p.m. daily, while other businesses have stopped operating all together — including Kristen Stewart‘s latest film, Snow White and the Huntsman.

“A friend of mine is stuck in London w/ #KristenStewart’s team. They JUST stopped #SnowWhite prep work until riots die down. #prayforlondon,” Entertainment Insider and Social Media Expert Gregory Littley tweeted Aug. 9.

Snow White and the Huntsman is scheduled to hit theaters in less than a year on June 1, 2012, so we hope they can resume pre-production soon and get back on track. Most importantly, we hope everyone involved stays out of harm’s way! (Source)

Has “Thor 2” Found Its New Director?

After tackling the fantasy genre with episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Brian Kirk is in early talks to direct Thor 2 for Marvel Studios and Disney. This would mark Kirk’s directorial debut on a major Hollywood production, which has already been skedded for a July 26, 2013 release.

The project will bring back Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-wielding superhero to the bigscreen for his next adventure after The Avengers.

Kirk rose to the top of the list of directors vying for the job after he showed his abilities to juggle large ensembles of thesps and complex storylines in his TV projects, while also grounding the fantasy genre via his work on “Thrones.” The “Thor” sequel is expected to feature a large cast of Aasgardians and creatures in the Norse mythology-set world.

A Marvel Studios spokesperson declined to comment. (Source)

Chris Sad to See “Thor” Director Go

Thor director Kenneth Branagh is walking away from Asgard, and no one is sadder than star Chris Hemsworth.

“I’m really disappointed,” Hemsworth said of Branagh’s decision to pass on “Thor 2,” which is aiming for a July 2013 release and may begin filming next May. “Ken built that character, and everything I know about the Thor world I learned while shoulder-to-shoulder with Ken. I learned so much from him.”

By all reports, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige invited Branagh back to follow up his success of Thor, the May 6 release that has grossed $447 million in worldwide box office. The 50-year-old filmmaker seemed energized by the prospects of a sequel too, both in private and in public. In the end, though, the marathon devotion required for a major visual-effects epic and the urgency to get the script process underway were the factors that sent Branagh in a different direction. Instead of crossing the Rainbow Bridge again, Branagh will be busy as the returning star of the acclaimed British television series Wallander and with his ramping work with a theater group in his native Belfast.

Hemsworth, who visited Comic-Con International in San Diego this last weekend to promote Snow White and the Huntsman, said Marvel Studios will decide fairly soon on Branagh’s replacement. The 27-year-old actor has said the Oscar-nominated Branagh was initially intimidating and ultimately inspiring to work with, and that he has left a mark that will carry forward on the franchise.

“As long as he’s happy, that’s the thing,” said Hemsworth, who left San Diego to return to the New Mexico set of ”The Avengers.” “I learned so much from Ken while we built [the first film], so at least I had that time with someone like that. The start of anything creative is the most important period in a way. That’s when the most can go wrong, and Ken made sure we got it right.”

Robert Downey Jr. Talks “The Avengers” and Joss Whedon

If any actor knows the anxieties and payoff of stepping onto the silver screen as a superhero, it’s Robert Downey Jr., who super-charged his career by donning the armor of Iron Man for a franchise that has pulled in more than $1.2 billion in worldwide box office. On Tuesday at the premiere of Captain America: The First Avenger at the El Capitan Theatre, Downey said he knew what it was like to walk a mile in the red boots of Chris Evans, the latest Marvel Universe star.

“Evans has had just a nerve-racking summer up to this point,” he said. “Up until this night, you’re starting to get the feedback and people are saying, ‘Wow, this really works. And we’re happy and reviews are good and it looks like the numbers are gonna be good.’ It’s a horrible part of the job that we do. But it’s nice when he’s on this side of it, I imagine, for him.”

It remains to be seen how the public will receive “Captain America” – but Evans already has a big fan in Downey. “First of all, look at the man’s profile. Very handsome. Second of all — very capable actor,” the actor said. So the pair and the rest of the team are getting along on the set of “Avengers”?

“It’s a nightmare,” Downey said with a winking tone. “I’m not talking to these clowns. No. It’s really fun. It’s been surprisingly fun. Also, [‘Avengers’ director] Joss Whedon has really taken us to new depths of discovery for our characters. And I think the movie going audiences – myself among them – should be pleased.”

Daniel Brühl Looking to Join Hemsworth in “Rush”

It looks like Ron Howard’s next directorial project is getting some major traction. The other day it was reported that Chris Hemsworth was in talks to take on the role of James Hunt in Howard’s Formula 1 racing drama Rush, and now Inglorious Basterds star Daniel Brühl is circling the role of Hunt’s rival Niki Lauda. The film follows the heated rivalry between Austrian driver Lauda and British driver Hunt in the 1970’s.

Screen Daily (via The Playlist) reports that the plan is to start filming later this year in Germany and the U.K. once Hemsworth has wrapped Snow White and the Huntsman. Howard will direct from a screenplay by Peter Morgan (“The Queen”). (Source)

Chris In Talks to Star in Biopic Film “Rush”

Ron Howard’s next film Rush is a biopic of the British Formula One driver and notorious playboy, and with a Peter Morgan script, a charismatic lead actor is required. Deadline report that Aussie actor Hemsworth, who got his Hollywood break in Star Trek, has been offered the part.

Talks are taking place, with a view to shoot next year. Howard will have to work around Hemsworth’s Marvel commitments, with Thor 2 officially announced for July 2013. Following his reprisal of Thor for The Avengers, Hemsworth will film Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart later this year.

Also up for consideration is I Am Number Four star Pettyfer. (Source)

“Snow White and the Huntsman” To Be a Trilogy?

In an interview with EW, producer Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Oz: The Great and Powerful) explained that Snow White and the Huntsman is actually the first in a planned trilogy of films and revealed how exactly this re-imagining of the classic fairytale will be similar to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and differs from the Julia Roberts Snow White film:

“We retain the basic story in the same way we retain the basic story of Alice, a young girl meant to be the queen who is cast out. The Huntsman is a mercenary, in the sense that he’s a guy who is very able in the woods, more able than most anyone. His job is to capture runaway girls, who are all fleeing the kingdom because of the queen. He’s a nondescript bounty hunter, as we first meet him. He’s not a nice guy, but not only that he’s someone who has lost hope and lost faith. He has lost his wife, given up on everything.”

“She starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen, she escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods.”

Snow White and the Huntsman begins shooting this coming August and is slated to hit theaters on June 1st, 2012. (Source)
