During a Reddit AMA, director Taika Waititi has been discussing his upcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok, during which he suggested it will be the most “out there” Marvel movie to date, and that it will have a very “Taika-esque” tone.
“I think [Thor: Ragnarok] will be one of the most adventurous and most ‘out there’ of all the Marvel movies. It’s a crazy movie. You can expect a Taika-esque tone. They’ve been very accepting of my style.”
Plot details for Thor: Ragnarok are being kept under wraps, but we do know that it will incorporate elements of the Planet Hulk storyline, with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) set to take part in gladiatorial games hosted by The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Tom Hiddleston will also reprise the role of Loki, and Cate Blanchett is set to play the villainous Hela, although we don’t yet know how they will factor into the plot.

In a recent interview, Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett had nothing but praise for her Thor: Ragnarok team, while sharing a bit of behind-the-scenes intel. Blanchett joined the Marvel movie universe, playing the villainous Hela in Thor 3 opposite Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder and Mark Ruffalo as the green goliath otherwise commonly referred to as The Hulk.
Well, [Mark’s] the greenest of the green! I didn’t get to work so much with Mark, unfortunately. But I did get to work with Chris [Hemsworth] and talk about delightful! He’s just absolutely fabulous. The whole thing was just a riot and fantastic fun. Did you see [director] Taika Waititi’s film, Hunt for the Wilderpeople? Or, What We Do in the Shadows? He’s just got such a sure hand. He’s wonderful, I’d eat him for breakfast if I could. He’s absolutely delicious. And he’s irreverent which is great because Marvel, at its best, has its tongue firmly in its cheek.”
Mark Ruffalo apparently didn’t spend a lot of time with any of the cast members, only occasionally shooting with his leading man Chris Hemsworth against green screen on an Australian soundstage. But the rest of the cast appeared on set together, and Cate Blanchett has nothing but good things to say about that experience. Especially working with Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.
“He is a big guy! But, you know, you get on the Avengers/Marvel bandwagon – they’re making so many of these behemoths at once – he doesn’t have any time to sort of get chubby. I do love Chris in these movies – he has that really playful side of him that he gets to truck out.
Next year is going to be a very packed and very promising year for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only are we getting the highly anticipated sequel to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy as well as the first solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU, Spider-Man: Homecoming, but we are also getting what could be the best Thor movie yet with Thor: Ragnarok. While “Thor: Ragnarok” has added a ton of new talent for the third installment of the franchise, it looks like some friendly faces will be returning as well.
Thanks to a couple of posts to Instagram, it seems all but confirmed that the Warriors Three will indeed be coming back for Thor: Ragnarok. The movie is currently filming in Australia, and a tattoo shop there called Punktured Tattoo recently got a visit from none other than Ray Stevenson, who plays Volstagg. The actor stopped in to get a tattoo “in between filming.”
The next clue came in the form of an Instagram post from one of the other Warriors Three actors, Tadanobu Asano, who plays Hogun. Asano was in both of the previous Thor movies, but his role in Thor: The Dark World was quite small. The actor posted a picture of himself on a beach, and simply captioned it with “Hello Australlia.” Unless he is just taking a very coincidental vacation, it pretty much seems like a sure thing that Hogun will be back. As for Zachary Levi, who plays Fandral, he hinted about his involvement in Thor: Ragnarok during San Diego Comic-Con, so that just about seals the deal as far as seeing Thor’s most trusted warrior companions in the movie. Two-time Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett joins Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok as the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, along with Jeff Goldblum who joins the cast as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson who will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban who will add his might to the fray as Skurge.
Rounding out the cast for the film is three-time Oscar-nominee Mark Ruffalo, reprising his role of Bruce Banner/the Hulk from Marvel’s The Avengers and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.”
“Thor’s new cast members join returning stars Chris Hemsworth in the title role for the fifth time; Tom Hiddleston as Thor’s adversarial, adopted brother, Loki; Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Idris Elba as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; and Academy Award-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard.

Following reports that Natalie Portman won’t appear in Thor: Ragnarok -— with Tessa Thompson starring as the film’s female lead — Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has come forward to confirm the actress is sitting this one out and shed some light as to why.
When asked by The Empire Film Podcast (via Heroic Hollywood) why Portman isn’t involved in Ragnarok, Feige said there are “many reasons,” including several that are made evident when watching the film. “There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie,” he added, noting “80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos.”

Back in December it was reported that Cate Blanchett was wanted for a role in the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Ragnarok, with Mark Ruffalo subsequently supporting the rumour. And now director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the two-time Oscar winner is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Yes,” Waititi tells Wired when asked if the actress is set to appear in the film. “Look, it’s so early I’m not sure exactly what the extent of it is, but it’s looking good, which would make me very happy.”
Asked about the rumour that Blanchett will play Hela, Waititi responded that: “Yeah, the rumor … Here’s the thing. I can’t say anything. I’ve probably said way too much.”

Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, the third instalment of the Marvel Studios’ franchise starring Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding comic book Super Hero, has today been confirmed to start pre-production in Queensland, Australia in January 2016 with filming to begin in June 2016.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk met with Marvel executives in June in Los Angeles and, through Screen Queensland, worked tirelessly to ensure Queensland was the production destination of choice. Here’s what Annastacia Palaszczuk had to say in a statement about Thor: Ragnarok filming in Australia.
“This is a huge win for Queensland and I am thrilled that Thor will be filming exclusively in our state. As our economy diversifies, Queensland is demonstrating its strength as a lead destination for filmmakers both internationally and locally, and my government is doing what it can to ensure that Queensland remains a global hub for the screen sector. The production will spend more than $100 million AUD in Queensland and will employ over 750 Queensland crew.”
The studio will film at many locations throughout Queensland including scenes at Village Roadshow Studios at the Gold Coast. (Source)
