After debuting to a raucous crowd at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, the key players comprising “The Avengers” gang are now set. What’s not yet clear is which of the superheroes in this Marvel all-star team will assume the leadership role. According to comic book lore, Captain America is the guy who unites many of the heroes — including Thor and Iron Man — but the man who will hold Thor’s hammer on the big screen next year is not so sure the Captain is assured the boss role.
“Big egos,” Chris Hemsworth laughed to MTV News shortly before the announcement of the “Avengers” cast at Con, adding that Thor does not like to be ordered around. “I don’t think he likes to be. I don’t think any of them do. That’s what’s so interesting.”

They say that the clothes make the man, but in playing Thor, the clothes aren’t enough for actor Chris Hemsworth. He also needs a hammer.
Hemsworth stars in the title role of director Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor,” the upcoming adaptation of the thunder-cracking Marvel Comics character. Naturally, every superhero features an iconic accessory — Captain America has his star-spangled shield, for instance, while Iron Man has his sophisticated suits of high-tech armor — and in Thor’s case, he’s got the mighty hammer Mjolnir at his disposal.
“There’s a few different versions [of the hammer] for the shots — the close-ups, the stunt one,” Hemsworth told MTV News during San Diego Comic-Con of his character’s weapon of choice. “But the main one was a very heavy, beautifully polished, metal, wood-looking thing. It was an incredible thing.”

“The very first audition I had was one of those things in amongst several other auditions you get,” Hemsworth told MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con. “You know nothing about it, there’s no script or anything — it’s very secretive. You might quickly rip through a couple of comic books, but it’s also based on instinct.”
Hemsworth went on to say that he later met with director Kenneth Branagh, and that his brother (actor Liam Hemsworth, also known as Miley Cyrus’ current squeeze) was up for the same role.
Was competing with his flesh and blood awkward?
“No, it’s great,” he laughed, making it clear that there is no brotherly rivalry. “The majority of the time in this business, we’re sort of pinching ourselves.”
Hemsworth added that the family support goes both ways. “I’m excited for him and vice versa. Through that process, I was giving him advice on what I thought Ken wanted — and then when I was in there testing, he was doing the same.”
Briefly talking with USA Today Chris Hemsworth, the actor portraying the mighty Thor, Kenneth Branagh, the man bringing the Norse God to the big screen, and Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, discus Comic-Con and more.
“I think they were warning me,” says Branagh, known more for his adaptations of Shakespeare than superhero stories. “They said to brace myself, that I’d never seen anything like it.”
“Nobody believed in us when we brought Iron Man here,” says Marvel chief Kevin Feige. “They said we were bringing our B-team in. I think we’ve proved that there’s no such thing. If you can impress Comic-Con fans, you’re in the big leagues.”
“It’s a bit scary, the power and devotion they have,” says Chris Hemsworth, who plays the titular Norse hero in the film scheduled to arrive in May. “A couple of months ago I was feeling secure and went online to see what people were saying. Some people loved we were doing a movie; some people already hated it. I’ll never read comments again.”
