“The Avengers” Trailer to be Released Tuesday!

Marvel has announced that they’ll be releasing the first trailer for The Avengers on Tuesday. Since the movie is still seven months away, I imagine there will be more title cards and graphics than actual footage, but one can hope. More than anything, I’m curious to see how Joss Whedon’s take on the Marvel Universe will differ from previous directors if at all. We know that Whedon can handle the dialogue and character relationships, but aside from Serenity, his directing experience is for the small screen and The Avengers is a movie with an epic scope.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012. (Source)

Chris Discusses “The Avengers” Thor

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, each cast member was asked about their Avengers character. Take a look below at what Chris has to say about the hammer-wielding God of Thunder:

“I think [Thor’s] motivation is much more of a personal one, in the sense that it’s his brother that is stirring things up. Whereas everyone else, it’s some bad guy who they’ve gotta take down. It’s a different approach for me, or for Thor. He’s constantly having to battle the greater good and what he should do vs. … it’s his little brother there,” the actor says. “I’ve been frustrated with my brothers at times, or family, but I’m the only one who is allowed to be angry at them. There’s a bit of that.”

Could Thor trying to be protecting Loki? Find out May 10, 2012 when the movie hits theatres.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” On Set Pic!

Who needs a knight in shining armor?

Kristen Stewart’s got it covered! On Wednesday the 21-year-old wore full armor and rode her horse into battle for a scene in Snow White and the Huntsman. Her costar Chris Hemsworth also hopped on top of a horse as they filmed on a beach on the southwest coast of Wales.

Hemsworth, 27, plays the Huntsman, while Sam Claflin takes on the role of Prince Charmant. Charlize Theron plays the Evil Queen in the film. “Trust me, she’s dark,” Theron said, describing her character at Comic-Con in San Diego. “I’m preparing to play a serial killer. Watch out, Kristen!”

Snow White at the Huntsman began filming in August and is slated to premiere in 2012.

“Thor 2” Plot Details Emerge

Thor and the rest of the Avengers may not appear on the big screen until summer 2012, but Marvel bosses are already well into planning the Norse legend’s standalone sequel.

Chris Hemsworth will once again play the exiled Asgardian in Thor 2, due for release in 2013. The film will focus on the relationship between Thor and love interest on earth Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman.

Marvel president Kevin Feige said: “Thor 2 will primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for the Nine Worlds.”

It was reported earlier this year Kenneth Branagh, who directed the first Thor film, will not return to helm a sequel, with Brian Kirk (Luther, Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones) and Monster director Patty Jenkins among the names rumoured to be taking over behind the scenes.

The Avengers will see Thor team up with fellow Marvel heroes Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye to battle his nefarious stepbrother Loki. The cast includes Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L Jackson, who will appear as S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury. (Source)

“Red Dawn” To Be Released Next Year

A remake of the invasion movie Red Dawn — with its villains now digitally modified from Chinese to North Korean — will finally hit American shores next year.

The new version of the Reagan-era classic will be released in the U.S. by independent studio FilmDistrict, according to people familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly. FilmDistrict is finalizing a deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the studio that produced the movie in 2009.

In the original Red Dawn, a group of teenagers in a Washington town battle invading Soviet forces; in the remake, the invaders were changed to Chinese. But that decision turned the film into a hot potato.

After MGM emerged from bankruptcy in late 2009 and decided it wouldn’t release the movie, no other studio wanted to touch “Red Dawn” for fear of offending the government of China, a hugely important market in the increasingly global film business.

As a result, the movie’s producers last winter used digital technology and creative editing to change most of the invaders to North Koreans. (Staunchly communist North Korea is economically isolated and not a market for any American products.) Still, it took most of the year to find a distributor willing to take the movie on.

FilmDistrict Chief Executive Peter Schlessel declined to discuss “Red Dawn.” Given that final details are still being worked out, however, it likely won’t hit theaters until 2012.

The new Red Dawn cost about $60 million to produce. It stars Chris Hemsworth, who played the title character in Thor, and was directed by Dan Bradley, second unit director on the last two “Bourne” movies and the upcoming “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”

FilmDistrict, which is backed by finance and production company GK Films, launched in April with the horror hit “Insidious.” Its most recent release is the Ryan Gosling L.A. noir film, “Drive.” (Source)
