Tourism Australia “Dundee” Super Bowl Commercial

The ambitious plan to take Australia to the Super Bowl began over dinner at a Sydney pizzeria this time last year — but could serve tourism operators close to $6 billion in US travel business by 2020.

The mock Crocodile Dundee trailer — teased to viewers before the NFL blockbuster — proved to be the stunning launch of Tourism Australia’s biggest single advertising campaign into America since Paul Hogan fronted the Come Say G’Day ads over 30 years ago.

An all-star cast of Australia’s most popular showbiz exports — lead by Thor star Chris Hemsworth and featuring cameos by Oscar nominee Margot Robbie and Hugh Jackman — featured in the 60-second spot, which aired to an estimated audience of 110 million people during the Super Bowl showdown between New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

Hemsworth, a Tourism Australia ambassador, will also feature in the rollout of an extended $36 million marketing campaign, alongside actor Danny McBride who appeared in the commercial as Mick Dundee’s long lost son. Take a look at the trailer below:

“Avengers: Infinity War” Director Hoping For “Darth Vader For A New Generation”

After making his debut in the post credits scene of The Avengers, we’re now just a few short months away from seeing Thanos take centre stage as he battles Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War. And, speaking to Empire Magazine, Joe Russo has been chatting about the Mad Titan, and what he and his brother Anthony are hoping to achieve with the villain:

“Darth Vader was the pre-eminent villain of my childhood, and we’re hoping to make a Darth Vader for a new generation,” said Russo. “We’re hoping he has that complexity to him, and that he strikes fear into the heart of the audience, but at the same time they go on a journey with him. Frankly, Avengers 3 is his movie.”

If there’s been one major criticism levied towards Marvel, it’s that the films’ villains haven’t always been up to par. Let’s hope that changes when Marvel unleashes the Mad Titan this May.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th in the UK and May 4th in North America. (Source)

“Dundee” Trailer #02 and Screen Captures

When the first trailer for Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home appeared online, the Internet’s collective shock was palpable.

Could Danny McBride really have filmed an entire Crocodile Dundee sequel about the iconic Australian hero’s son without seemingly anyone finding out? And how could Thor actor Chris Hemsworth possibly sign onto a project without a million reports emerging?

The answer, of course, is that Dundee is not a real movie. The trailer is a spoof, part of the marketing campaign for Tourism Australia, the full advert for which will appear during the Super Bowl next month.

“Dundee” Trailer and Screen Captures

Last week, fans were taken by surprise by Dundee, the mysterious sequel/spinoff to the Crocodile Dundee franchise starring none other than comedy superstar Danny McBride. While people are still speculating about whether the project, produced by Rimfire Films (the company behind the first two Dundee movies) is an actual film or merely a lavish Super Bowl spot, it has been revealed that Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth will play Wally Jr., the son of Dundee’s business partner Walter “Wally” Reilly as played by John Meillon in the first two films.

“12 Strong” Critics’ Reviews

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s latest film, 12 Strong hit theatres this weekend. Directed by Nicolai Fuglsig, the movie features a fantastic cast of Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Elsa Pataky and Michael Pena. Take a look below at what the critics have to say about the film:

Rolling Stone — Producer Jerry Bruckheimer thinks big, and his war movies can range from noisy idiocy (Pearl Harbor) to near brilliant (Black Hawk Down). Luckily, 12 Strong sees the value in substance as well as spectacle. The action scenes pulsate with the hum of modern warfare. Credit Hemsworth for playing Nelson not as some Norse God out of Marvel fantasy (that’s his day job) but as a man of courage forced to improvise on his feet or die trying. The rest of the cast also perform beyond the call of escapist duty.

Globe and Mail — 12 Strong suffers badly from a script stuffed with clichéd dialogue and some heavy-handed scenes on both the home front and in Afghanistan. Still, director Nicolai Fuglsig does succeed admirably in turning a contemporary battle fought with precision air strikes and satellite communications into a classic war movie with unambiguous good guys and a vile enemy. Put aside your hindsight and at least you’ll be rewarded with some invigorating action.

Variety — “12 Strong” is a war film that wants you to feel good about the invincibility of American power. The film is built like a grungy combat video game, with each village treated like a new level and the agony of battle taking a backseat to the pounding thrill of force. Visually, the terrain comes close to raising an existential question: What, exactly, are we fighting for in Afghanistan? The film slips in the pointed and now rather outdated argument that if the Taliban can be defeated, and Afghanistan eliminated as an Al Qaeda base, then there will be no more attacks like 9/11. Well, there haven’t been…but is that the reason why?
